It is a private course, and I played it this time during a fund-raiser. It is a venerable parkland layout--mature trees, etc. Something of a classic, an "old-school" design without large rocks, pools, etc. in the fairway. You can let it out off the tee most holes. Easy to walk from greens to the next tee. Greens can be challenging but are fair and not tricked up. I learned golf on this course a long while ago and have played it as an adult a couple of times as a guest. It is located on the NW edge of Richmond near the Pt. Pinole Regional Park, which borders San Pablo Bay (the northern part of San Francisco Bay). Easily accessible off Richmond Parkway.

Excellent course. I would not pass up an opportunity to play it. The layout of the course usually allows a chance at recovery for an errant tee-shot, but it is unforgiving around the greens. It is a great short-game challenge.

I have been a member of Richmond Country Club for 22 years and would not consider leaving to join another club for any reason. The members are diverse, friendly and fun loving. In recent years the condition of the golf course has improved immensely, so that it is now one of the best conditioned courses in the area. The greens are small, normally moderately fast and sufficiently nuanced to provide a significant challenge. While the layout does not appear difficult and the course is not long, it provides an excellent test that does not yield low scores easily.
